The UNESCO Creative Cities Network was established in 2004 to promote cooperation between the cities that identify creativity as a strategic factor for sustainable urban development.
On joining the Network, the cities undertake to share their good practices and to develop links that they associate with the public and private sectors and with civil society to:
Strengthen the creation, production, distribution and dissemination of activities, cultural services and goods.
Develop creativity and innovation hubs and increase the opportunities for creators and professionals of the cultural sector
Fully integrate culture and creativity in their sustainable development plans.
Improve access to and participation in cultural life, particularly to benefit disadvantaged groups and vulnerable persons
